William Morehouse Scholarship Now Open for Applications

The NYSBA Research & Education Foundation is now accepting applications for the William Morehouse Scholarship, offering up to $1,000 for students pursuing careers in residential construction. HBRMV members may qualify for additional matching funds.

Scholarship Opportunity for Future Construction Professionals

The NYSBA Research & Education Foundation has opened applications for the William Morehouse Scholarship, a program designed to support students entering the residential construction industry. This is an excellent opportunity for students in our region to pursue their construction careers with financial support.

About the Scholarship

The William Morehouse Scholarship awards up to $1,000 per recipient to help students cover tuition, fees, books, materials, and housing costs. As a participating local HBA, the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of the Mohawk Valley offers matching scholarship funds to eligible applicants, potentially increasing the total award.

The scholarship honors William Morehouse, a longtime NYSBA member and former Executive Officer of HBRMV, whose generosity helped establish the NYSBA Research and Education Foundation.

Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in a Technical/Trade School, Community College, certificate program, apprenticeship, or workforce training program in New York State
  • Be pursuing a building industry-related curriculum
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher (or equivalent academic standing)
  • Be a New York State resident with career goals in the state’s homebuilding industry

Application Requirements

To apply, students must submit:

  1. Completed online application form
  2. One letter of recommendation from a teacher (within the last two years)
  3. Proof of registration or enrollment in an eligible program
  4. Most recent transcript
  5. Recent head-and-shoulders photograph
  6. (Optional) Letter of support from an NYSBA member sponsor

Key Dates

  • Application Deadline: May 30, 2026
  • Interviews: June 1–12, 2026 (conducted by your local HBA)
  • Award Announcements: On or about June 30, 2026
